Retarder Lambda plate

Here you can discuss different microscopic techniques and illumination methods, such as Brightfield, Darkfield, Phase Contrast, DIC, Oblique illumination, etc.

Retarder Lambda plate

#1 Post by Plasmid » Thu Dec 03, 2020 4:53 pm

I've been playing with the polarizing filters lately. And notice that I'm getting a shawdow image with Kohler illumination set up, and so I was wondering if a retarder Lambda polarizing plate would eliminate this effect.

Thank you.

That looks condenser related. Try lowering the condenser a bit. With Kholer lighting at lower magnification the condenser should be lowered a bit for best image. With mine I get a rather grainy circular view at the outer limits of the field of view if I do not lower the condenser.

That worked, thank you Greg, I also had to open the field diaphragm and lower the light intensity a bit.
