New bought a leitz POL condenser

Here you can discuss different microscopic techniques and illumination methods, such as Brightfield, Darkfield, Phase Contrast, DIC, Oblique illumination, etc.

NO analyzer
To try and answer more than one question at once...

1. A condenser wouldn't come with an analyser, that has to be above the objective. Yours does seem to have polarising material in the lower holder.

2. A 'Pol' condenser designation, for the whole thing, and/or the top lens, just relates to the thing being strain-free really. This is the case with the 'P' on that top lens. It is more important if you are taking measurements.

3. In terms of the marking on yours, the polarising material is usually sandwiched between two clear layers of very thin glass. As polar work often requires a high bulb setting, as much light is 'lost' this inevitably can lead to some heat damage. It is not unusual for the material to be 'shot' completely, sometimes being bleached in the inner section. Can't see this in yours, but it may be some delamination.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Not sure what that's showing.. :? Have you joined a pol and a phase condenser?

You could use a loose sheet of pol matrial and just put it over the light, then use a DF/phase condendser?
