Easier than I could have believed

Easy addition.
Drilled and tapped for this mechanical stage. Completely removable.
I already had this mechanical stage.
I would look at amscope. They knock their’s down to $15 USD now and then.

Polaroid sheet under slide clip, and camera polarizer.

Hmmm... a screw on analyzer would get it up out of the way.

A very neat, useful and straight forward modification that, at first thought, offers several potential avenues of enhancement. I like this. Great job and thanks for sharing.

Interesting idea. Could you remove the stage and show your work? How did you get it square?

Agree that placing the Analyzer closer to the lens and therefore out of the way would be convenient.

Could you adapt a flexible arm lamp attachment? See image

Well, the sum total of the “work” was drilling a hole and tapping it to fit the mounting screw on the clip.
This one has a nice straight edge that sits 1/4” from the straight edge of the base. I spent a lot of years working as a printer, and recognizing wheather or not two lines a quarter inch apart are parallel is easy for me.
The scope came with such a lamp, but no power supply. I use a gooseneck led lamp.

I put a thread in digital processing sharing an experiment this came in handy for.

I need to light this from both sides. I think a ring light would be too flat.

My suggestion was that you adapt such a lamp to hold the Analyzer under the lens.

Though I admit I don't know how practical that is. The idea is to be able to swing it in and out.

Curious about the x-y stage -- is this something still (and affordably) available?

I got it on eBay. Came from China. I suggest the $15 job from amscope.

Here is another inexpensive stage for stereos:

I'll soon post a report on this item; but it got good reviews (albeit only two). One possible disadvantage of this one is that it has no hole for transmitted illumination, if that is something you need.

Presumably, this one also could be screwed to the base of your scope, but I will find out.

This is the one I used. Bought it for a Petrographical scope I was restoring, but the knobs were in the way of the objectives.

This would be far less expensive, but you would need to mount it in back.
