Greetings, Jeff in Texas here
Greetings, Jeff in Texas here
Hi all, I'm Jeff in Texas. I have way too many hobbies, but have always wanted to delve further into small things. I am a physicist by training and work in high tech. I am an avid amateur astronomer/astrophotographer so I like the "big" picture, but also want to understand more about the small. I have started reading your forum with interest.
My interests are around organisms that are not visible to the naked eye, I don't have anything I'm necessarily interested in more than anything else, but I would like to view mammal cells, bacteria, and pollen. I am looking to purchase my first scope - maybe something under $1000. I see the Olympus CH and Nikon Alphaphot 2 for a good price near me. I'd prefer something of decent quality rather than the knockoffs if possible, so I guess I'm looking in the used market for something. Maybe phase contrast? Is that realistic at a lower end budget? I don't mind spending the money on something if its of decent quality, will last, and will outperform. I think I'd prefer to buy new, or from a reputable rebuilding/maintenance vendor.
Other hobbies are completely geeking out on coffee/espresso, ham radio, fast cars, fly fishing, metal detecting, among others.
Thank you for allowing me to peer into your forum.

Thank you kindly...and yes, I'm certainly open to your Zeiss - can you PM me what you have and some details? Thank you! BTW I'm north of Fort Worth, in a little town called Haslet.

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll have a great time here!
With your other interest in old artifacts, an (additional) stereoscope is a must
(you'll find it very handy with fly fishing too)
