Hi, I am a new member

#1 Post by daleo » Tue Sep 15, 2015 1:40 pm

Hi, I am a new member and I just join here. I am a clinical microbiologist and I work in Messina University.
I have a small cinese microscopy for my home research from many years and it is my first microscopy.
With him I have discovered the microscopic world when I was adolescent and when started my university trip.
I found this forum while I search other and I decide to join it. This is the first forum that I found on the microscope and "microbe".
Sorry for my english if it is not perfect.

Hello, daleo! I'm in Texas, and we can hardly speak English here either. No worries, and welcome!

Cheers! Here is greeting from another microbiologist. I used to work in research bacteriology - bioterrorism organisms and gut microbiome.

Are you more specialized in clinical bacteriology or virology? Do you work on diagnostic methods like qPCR? Or do any research on antimicrobial susceptibility/resistance?

Hi, I am spcialized in Clinical Microbiology and Virology and work currently in mycobacteriology and mycology. I work with classical and molecular methods like PCR. My research is focus on Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and I cooperate with Palermo University for Mycobacterium spoligotyping, also I study the candidemie do Candida species non-albicans.
My passion is the amphibians and reptiles and I will write a paper on the skin microbiota of Bombina pachypus toad.
So, thanks to all for warm welcome me.

daleo,

Skin microbiota of toad? That sounds interesting!
What is your hypothesis for that project? What is the significance?

A few years back our lab did a surgery of skin microbiota on human forearm, it was just a test run though, so no significance or hypothesis.

My research above the skin of the toad's microbiota is perform for identify species of microbes on Bombina pachypus in south Italy and I search for presence of Batrachochytrium dendrobates. This research is performed in my free time. I would like know more on the skin's microbiota of the Bombina pachypus and after I would write a paper on that.
Some month ago I do a research on the microbes above the smartphone...this is the agar plate!

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing. I heard each animal species has its own fungus, which has interesting relationship with its host.

I rember a photo published in National Geography showing a fungus infected ant.

And some skin bacteria (which you may find in you microbiota research) can synthesize antifungal compounds allowing host to coexist with fungus with being severely harmed.

But to dig deep in that research area you may need some molecular techniques and equipments, which is rarely accessible from home by hobbyist.

Cheers!
