Question about PM's

#1 Post by McConkey » Fri Feb 19, 2016 8:00 pm

I've received a few PM in regards to some information I am looking for about a new microscope however, I am unable to reply. It states I have no made enough posts to PM people yet.

I'm just wondering when will I be able to respond to PM's?

Thanks!
Karl

I think you need just a few more posts to reply PMs. Maybe 6-11 posts? You will see a "PM" button below each member's name/posts, when you get to that post count and refresh your screen/browser.

Still unable to send/reply to PM's. Currently at 17 post. In the FAQ is says to contact a board admin...just not too sure how to do that when I can't send PM's ahah

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I probably remember that post count requirement wrong. Keep posting and you will get there quickly. You can go to photos and videos section and say "great photos, thank you for sharing!" Over and over again, for example.

FYI: This is an anti-spam measure so that only "real" members use the PM feature, and not robots that send spam mail automatically.

Oliver - Do you recall what the criteria are to pass the robot test? I'm sure I have the results of my turning test around here somewhere!

Wow..I did,nt know of the rule of posts! I say Karl is real! In an odd way..the rule of posts..(which I did not know about)..I guess the rule of posts is now out of the bag...so 'empty posting' will be selected for..to permit use of the PM feature.

It's good Karl mentioned his speed bump prior to enjoying use of the PM's.

What is the number of posts before PM is functional? Seriously, hello, Karl. Seriously, I so benefit from this forum! charlie guevara, finger lakes,US

:-)
Ha, now I get it - took me some time to understand the responses!

When I said robot, I did not mean an android, but rather a "software robot". This is a term that IT folks like to use often. A robot is a software, a program, that automatically fills out web forms and sends automatic emails. And these can be quite a problem for web forums and online forms. Some of these robots register automatically hundreds of fake user accounts to be able to send spam mails.

I did not mean to compare anyone with an android!
greets, Oliver.

Hi Oliver...my sense is we all understood the need for protection from 'the bot's'...and fun is a conciet of my wetware.

I totally like all the tools this platform permits for forum microscopy. charlie guevara'

BTW ,Karl, I was trying to 'up your posting number' with the fanciful banter...keep at it, OP!

The forum settings are that you need 3 (three!) posts until you become a regular user and are allowed to post private messages. Does it work now for you?

Still unable to compose PM's. This is the message I get.

"We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature."

Still no option to reply to PM's either :(

Actually I have about now 50 posts, and I still can't reply to PMs or send PMs! I've been a member since April or so.

posting pm is automatically enabled after about 10 or so posts were made. This is a spam prevention.

I checked my earliest posts here and found that I was able to send PMs after posting 3 forum posts. I do routinely remove my internet browser history, cache and cookies. Don't know if that matters.

For me personally it was just over 50 posts before I could reply to PM's... but I am a spambot so it's understandable.
