Synthetic mountants and the shrinkage effect

#1 Post by Kambio » Mon Jul 25, 2016 7:33 am

Hi all,
I have just joined the forum.
I have an interest in Microscopy. I have a degree in Applied Science and have worked in various Medical Laboratories my whole career. For the last 3 years I have been running a small business called Kambio Microscopy that used to be called Kamerunga Biological Laboratory. I have had trouble sourcing DPX from Merck and I would like to explore using other synthetic mountants. I was hoping to find out how they compare to DPX in relation to long term storage of microscope slides and the 'shrinkage' effect. Is there anyone out there that has used other synthetic mountants other than DPX with any degree of success? :)

Hi Kambio,

I use a product called "Cytoseal", a synthetic that works well for me.. As far as long term storage, after several years of use I have no complaints.. Here is a link to it on Ebay:

Kambio, I don't do mountants preferring instead to just try for good digital images.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Great place.
