Connect eyepiece camera to monitor

#1 Post by Culicoides » Thu Dec 06, 2018 4:04 pm

Dear All, can anyone one suggest an eyepiece camera to fit into an sm lux eyepiece and to connect to a monitor 15 pin serial socket? I don’t want to capture the images, just display them on the screen. High resolution is not required, and I want to avoid connecting to a computer or laptop.

Most modern (and affordable) eyepiece cameras and monitors will use either USB or HDMI outputs (camera) and inputs (monitor). You should be able to buy a complete setup for under $200. A serial port won't likely be as good; even if you already have an old monitor you hoped to use. Indeed, price could be as low as $70 or so each for the new camera and new small size LED monitor.

You can always use an hdmi to VGA adapter if you're dead set on using that irresistible 5 dollar garage sale LCD.

Many thanks, PeteM and Scarodactyl, will ponder further to avoid the serial connector. Best wishes for Christmas.
