Zeiss Circular Stage question

#1 Post by hb2sbdb » Tue Aug 18, 2020 3:06 am

Hi,
I have a question about the Zeiss circular stage below: What does the little knob (circled in red) supposed to do?
It doesn't seem to do anything on mine, whether tighten or loosen, so I wonder if i would need to service my stage to get things working as they should...

BTW, the horizontal slide movement (1st big knob) on mine is very smooth compare to the vertical movement (2nd big knob), which is quite stiffer. Is this normal?
i thought the little knob in question would be for controlling the stiffness of this direction, but loosen it or even taking it completely out, did not seem to help..

Thanks!

It corrects for Y axis 'wobble' There are 4 screws behind it that if removed would let you have a look.

It is always a little stiffer as it carries more weight.

Thank you very much 75RR!

did not realize there's already a thread about this particular stage that I could learn everything about it there :)
