I inherited my uncle's microscope and other than Bausch & Lomb, I have no idea what it is. i know that he used it from medical school at Johns Hopkins throughout his medical practice, so I suspect it's from the 1960s. Everything that came with it appears to be in the case and it is immaculate-- he was a surgeon, so it figures. But for the life of me I cannot find a serial number on it and googling "Where is the serial number" hasn't help.

I'm happy to post photos or provide any information-- I just don't know what information is pertinent. Thank you in advance for your assistance,

You can start with photos from either side, a left and right profile if you like. 1024 x 1024 pixels at 512 KB max, (can be smaller of course) just drag and drop

Yup. That's a bausch and lomb dynazoom. The knob on top provides the zoom from 1x-2x.

Cool. Any idea where I can find the serial number? My children are desperate to play with it but it's in such pristine condition, I'm just keeping it in the closet until I know if it's worth saving until they are older.

No serial number necessary. It’s a fine microscope, and very much worth keeping. Letting the kids enjoy it now will just require slightly more supervision.

A trinocular dynazoom can be had for about 100 bucks on eBay (though nkt necessarily such a fine example). Don't sweat the value too much, this would be a great scope to learn on if they end up being interested (though they're quite heavy and could possibly break a foot if dropped on one).

Hi UncleDrSpano-looks stunning-what a lovely instrument to inherit from your uncle-and yes he obviously looked after it-question fror B&L fans-did the dynazoom have a magnification changer to get a quick close up to decide whether a subject was worth switching over to higher objective? If so sounds like a very handy feature for a very busy med student, doctor or scientist. Did they come with trinocular option?

So insanely heavy!!! I can't imagine that anyone actually carried this beast anywhere in the case.

Thank you, Everyone! I may hide this away for a few years. My very science-focused 5-year-old has a student microscope, but I would love to give him this one when he can really appreciate it. My Uncle was childless and would probably roll over in his his grave if he knew it was being played with by a child. This thing is immaculate and still has the original boxes for all the things that come with it-- see attached photos.

BTW, that's my messy packing of the case. I can never get everything back in. And thank you for the Pippa video-- just what I needed.

Zooming is nice in general. Good for composing photos too. Yes, there is a trinocular option too, easily spottable because they have two knobs instead of one.


If you don't want to stArt them on this one (good idea not to at 5) a stereo microscope would probably be a better starting point. Much easier and more intuitive to operate. Bausch and Lomb also made excellent stereos if you want to keep to a theme.
