What is this Orthoplan accessory

What is this item for? It is like variotube, however lacking the magnification changer knob. The tube in the center is plugged, and it doesn't look like phototube.

Hi, the pins on the RH as visible in image #2 suggest it's an early shutter/camera controller as in shutter activation and timing.
The rods look like pull-rods to include/exclude the camera lightpath in/from illumination..
