Nikon inverted objective question

#1 Post by Rossf » Thu Oct 22, 2020 10:36 am

Got this recently in very nice condition-40x DM phase with correction collar-was surprised it came with a screw on cap with glass window-is this attachment for oil immersion on inverted scopes or for using as water immersion on an upright?

Nice find. That objective is for the older MD, MSD scopes. That cap has a flat glass window with a thckness of 1.5mm. For inverted observation through a petri dish, it is removed and correction collar adjusted to whatever thickness the petri dish is. For normal observation on upright microscopes as an LWD lens, put the cap on and set the collar to 1.5mm for null correction.

Cheers,
John

Thank you abednego1995 ! That’s why I way prefer vintage gear-often have features modern stuff doesn’t. Where else would I have found this info except this community .Very much appreciated John-and yes it was a nice find-looks almost mint and most important the correction collar is butter smooth....will try it out today.
