Objective upgrade

#1 Post by 75RR » Sun Oct 12, 2014 6:01 pm

Have these on loan/option to buy. (Picture 1) Will be testing them soon, just wondered if on general terms they would have better optics than my 60 year old Zeiss/Winkels. (See Picture 2 - 10x, 40x and 100x)
Are the 2.5x plan and the 16x plan better than the (Picture 1) options?
The 25x is a bonus, is it ok to use a pol objective for non pol work?

Pol objectives are tension-free and therefore do not interfere with polarized light. They can therfore be used for non polarized work.

Thanks, was wondering if it would be ok. A 25x should fit in nicely.

If in good condition, the 25x fluorite objective should be superb (watch out for delamination, though). I assume you are using Zeiss compensating eyepieces (as I understand it, this is especially important when using fluorite and apochromat objectives).

Upgraded a little while ago. Step up from the Zeiss/Winkels.
I believe the yellowish ring bordering the field of view establishes that?

Is not the 25x an Epi objective? if so threads would be different size
