Asking the impossible …

#1 Post by MichaelG. » Sat Apr 23, 2022 8:57 pm

Can anyone please give me a guide to the Zeiss component-numbering system[s]

I bought an old circular stage today:
It rotates freely and has no angular graduations … but it has one linear axis, driven by rack & pinion
A simple device, which appears nicely made and is engraved Zeiss Germany 4340238

So why can’t I find any reference to it ?

This one maybe ? a photo from a Zeiss brochure.
It has two linear motions thpouhs, X and Y, in addition to rotation.

In fact, mine is not marked with a catalogue numebr either... a you know there are often serial (?) numbers where we expect catalogue numbers.

.
Thanks … that may explain it
There are seven digits, not the typical six, and no spaces … so perhaps it is a serial number

Exactly, the seven digit numbers are series numbers, the 6 digits numbers are the order numbers. There was a time when Zeiss West (aka Carl Zeiss, Zeiss Winkel, Opton...not talking about Zeiss Jena) changes from series numbering to Order numbers.
Good source for information is provided in link below:
