Nosepiece compatibility between CH2 and BH2

#1 Post by kojiki23 » Wed Dec 20, 2023 3:38 pm

Hello,

I saw that BH2's objective turret can handle up to 6 objectives whereas CH2 is limited to 4.
Is it possible to buy the 6 objective version to put it on a CH2?

Best,

Do not know, SOME -not all variants- of the 5 pieces turrets fit the CH2.

Must have a picture somewhere …..

Pictures courtesy of a fellow microscopist whose name slipped my mind for this moment.

The one on the left has the 2 required screw mounting holes: left and right of the dovetail “slider” (sorry non native speaker here).

All the CH2 nosepieces I've seen have been screwed in place. For the BH2, the BHT and BHS have interchangeable nosepieces of the types shown above by DeBult. You'd want the ones with the dovetail slider and the extra holes. A quick and partial census of my own turrets shows most of the five-place ones have the extra holes, while none of my six-place ones do.

What I have done with a four-place CH2 nosepiece is buy a 5 place BH2 nosepiece, remove the dovetail, and screw it directly to the stand in place of the old one. Getting that fifth place is usually enough.

Yep, forgot to mention the obvious: you have to remove the dovetail slider.

Note: the screw heads may look like Philips, but are actually JIS (Japan Industry Standard), as the screws are often stuck: you will ruin the heads when using a Philips screwdriver.

In addition some heat (soldering iron) applied to the screw head often helps.
