Mystery Carl Zeiss Microscope

#1 Post by woodytia » Fri Mar 29, 2024 4:42 pm

I'd like to find out some information about a Carl Zeiss stereo microscope I've just obtained, couldn't see anything like it on the internet, I'm hoping some one on here can help. It came in a lovely box with a roll top opening, the microscope exudes quality at obviously has some age, one of the pictures shows the badge which appears to of come unglued, there is a a matching number on the body of the microscope underneath it and Carl Zeiss Jena but no mention of being made in Germany. Any help would be appreciated.

You're right. That is an unusual scope. In fact, I wasn't even aware that Zeiss made wall-mounted microscopes.

I've seen one of these in a local marine biology institute where my friend works, they don't use it anymore but it is there on display...

I think model name was SM XX. Look up on the Internet

I like the looks of these, they remind me of rabbits. My guess would be it is from the 1960s or a bit later.

EDIT:
Yes, it is a sm xx

Jokes aside they totally do for surgical applications.

Thanks folks, obviously forgot to rotate the pictures, nice to have some information about the microscope, totally worth the £20 I paid for it. It was the nice box that caught my eye to store another microscope, I can see from the build quality why Zeiss microscopes can last a long time and can still be used after some basic maintenance.
