Is that Zeiss good for 600€?

That's the one, it says almost anused for 600€. What model is it? Is it OK for the money? I guess that "it is a Zeiss" = "it works".

Cool slogan... not however necessarily true.

I find it hard to distinguish between the models.
What you need to remember is the the Zeiss Standard is a modular design.
That means that the "model" depends on the components it has at the time.

If you do not mind sharing the link it would be useful to have the information.

See link for manuals:

I agree with 75RR. Zeiss does not necessarily mean it works. I may be wrong, but it looks to me that it may be lacking the condenser? What is under the stage looks to me more like filters or filter holders than a condenser.

Thank you.
The link is local and in Greek. It just comtains this photo and description, like new, oil immersion lens, that's all.
In the same site there's a Standard 14 with no pics for 1500.
I'll leave that for later, there's a lot to enjoy with my humble stereoscopic in the near future.

You have to admit that it looks very nice. It makes me want one.
And I love the old advert.

gekko is right, it is missing the condenser.

On the positive side it has a filter holder and an auxiliary lens below the condenser carrier.
More modern of the 2 zeiss binocular heads and the interchangeable objective turret.
Looks like it might have a 5 objective turret (need more photos to be sure) - if that is correct it would be missing an objective.

Things to check:
Condition of the binocular head.
Condition of the objectives.
Coarse and fine focus.
Condenser carrier movement.
Stage movement, x and y axis.
Field diaphragm.
Lamp.
Transformer.

It does look nice though.

If you do decide to look at it I suggest you go with a knowledgeable friend.
If everything checks out offer him €400, remember you will need a condenser and that buyers expect people to haggle.

Word of caution. Sellers sometimes use stock photos. Ask if it is an actual photo before you travel to see it.

A cautionary tale.
A quick search for zeiss standard image came up with this. Site was not in greece! USA used lab equipment reseller.

The site is a Greek classifieds site. But the seller doesn't show the original microscope. He used a web image instead, that's why the white background.
He has his mobile though, one could ask to see it on person. But I try not to be tempted more. I know from astronomy, the more you hoard the less you use each one piece. Time is restricted.

Not a good sign when they do not show a photo of the actual scope they are selling.

Yes, you are correct. I have 3 telescopes myself, and 4 pair of binoculars. And just today have placed a bid on another microscope. How many can you use at once?

If I win it I'll start a new thread about it. I don't want to hijack this thread.

" How many can you use at once?"

Of course you can only use one, but that does not mean you cannot alternate scopes, or use one scope to make specimens to observe with another scope, or verify the quality of an objective by comparing it to several more. Also, if you switch from one scope to another they do not tire so quickly.
