Here is a quick way to look at the phase rings with your standard eyepieces. I used a piece of waxed paper backing from a roll of adhesive labels and some 3" wide clear packing tape. I made a tube that fit snuggly around the diameter of the eyepieces and slid one end of the tube on to the eyepiece in the scope. I put the other eyepiece upside down into the other end of the tube and adjusted it until the rings of the phase elements were in focus. I taped the upper eyepiece into the tube so I could have hands free to make any necessary adjustments. This is a very temporary solution, but there is no reason that a more substantial tube would not last for some time. If you are on a budget this is a sure-fire winner...
If you look closely at the photo you can see the eyepieces inside the translucent tube.
