I like very much a sentence said by the physicist Eric Betzig, a developer of this technology. Quote:

"...The only metric by which a microscope should be judged is how many people use it, and the significance of what they discover with it,..."

By distinction, in the hobby world, the microscope is judged by its ability to bring joy to the user, and/or at least be a joy to behold - for collectors... and sometimes, the less it has been manufactured and distributed, the higher its value...
