Halp identifying mechanical stage and leitz objective

Hi everybody!
I recently purchased a Leitz SM-M scope. The detachable coaxial graduated mechanical stage is labeled Made in Germany DBGM with a symbol that looks like a capital G with M and W enclosed. Identical stages are on ebay and listed as being made by Leitz. Im not sure this is a Leitz product, can anyone help?

Also, the scope has Leitz objectives that include the single capital letter P with the script Leitz logo. I cant fing any leitz catalogs or datasheets that list a P objective series.

Thanks!

Tom,
I would assume [guess] that M W stands for Märzhäuser Wetzlar
Here is their website: https://www.marzhauser.com/en/company.html
... and https://www.marzhauser.com/en/products/ ... tages.html makes it clear that MW is an OEM

I am going to hazard a guess and say that the "P" stands for Portugal... Leitz had a factory there at one time....

The P on Leitz objectives mean they are for polarizing light microscopy.

Pictures of your stage would be helpful.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the replies. Here are some pics:

I am thinking the P stands for "plan" as in planachromat. But Leitz objectives I have seen catalogued are labeled PL or NPL.

Any further ideas?

I would like to correspond with any Leitz black enamel scope owners, especially the SM and Laborlux III series.

Thanks again,
Tom

Agree with Charles - The 'P' on Leitz Wetzlar objectives stands for polarized

Thanks Charles and 75RR. Found a Leitz polarizing catalog and they do list the P objectives. I read that polarizing objectives are designed to be strain free and use as few elements as possible, wonder if they are any better or worse for regular brightfield visual microscopy?

Now if anybody can ID the manufacturer of the stage...

Regards to all,
Tom

I thought I had already done that.

Actually, the third component of the stage monogram is G (as OP pointed out)... this stage was manufactured by Gebruder Marzhauser... "the brothers Marzhauser." Leitz and several German manufacturers did not make their own mechanical stages but farmed it out, in this case to "the Brothers Marzhauser". Karl Kapps bought stages from them as well - and they're almost identical to SM-Lux stages.

The DBGM is a German accredition/manufacturing standard that would be equivalent to say our, "ISO 2000" criteria today. Machined and manufactured goods from Germany that bear that hallmark are manufactured to high tolerance. I have a set of Mauser calipers that bear the mark and are quit dandy!

You actually solved that mystery before I did, MichaelG! I hadn't thought about that monogram in years!

I believe the Balplan stage was also from G.M.
