Looks like phase constrast and polarized, so I think that is DIC, if the post about equpiment (third attachment) is part of the listing.

You can get results that give a 3 dimensional appearance ( similar to DIC) to the specimen by using oblique techniques. Google oblique lighting techniques for microscopes. It will explain why you can get a DIC appearnce.

However the scope in the pictures IS NOT DIC as the objectives are not DIC and all the required accessories are not present.

Depends. I do like oblique and phase. Still DIC will give better results for technical analysis, but aesthetics are a different story. I would love epi illumination Hoffman because for that method the 3D look is actually 3D (according to a text book I read). Hoffman is like DIC but does not require quite as many special pieces of equipment.
