Is this a projection eyepiece?

Can anyone identify this item? It appears to be a projection eyepiece with a c mount adapter at one end, a lens at the other and an internal lens that can be moved up or down the tube and locked in place. The barrel fits a 23mm eyepiece tube and it does project a real image.
Thanks
Michael

Hi Mike,
this is an interesting component, never seen before. Can you post a couple more pictures?
For photographing black items it is helpful to set exposure compensation to +1 or +2.

The unit is 13.5 cm in length and carries no makers information, at least none visible externally. It projects a respectable image onto a screen at roughly 4cm from the edge of the c –mount, I haven't tried measuring this precisely yet. Since a brand name is absent, I don’t expect that it incorporates any corrections. I’ve included a couple of additional images (below). Thanks Bob for tips on photographing shiny blacK.

I feel like I have seen this one before, not sure of the context though. It does look pretty similar to other old-style photo adapters I've handled before. Any idea of the size of the image?

It could have been part of a video camera attatchment or a projection screen. I don't know the size of the video camera sensors.
Perhaps it was part of a camera attatchment and the brand name was on the camera itself.
