About the planapo 1.6x objective of the Leica Wild M10

#1 Post by josemary » Sun Sep 15, 2019 11:26 am

I have recently purchased a Leica Wild M10 with a planapo 1.6x objective. Since the working distance is very short, about 19 mm, I have problems to manipulate the samples. I know from the manual that it is possible to detach the adapter ring at the end of the objective in order to have easier access to the samples. I have tried to unscrew the ring, but it has been impossible. I am not sure if there is any screw in that ring, only 2 lateral holes. Does any one knows how to remove that ring marked with arrow in the pictures ? For comparison, in the first picture I show at the right a same objective from Internet (Wild 472650) without the adapter ring.

It looks like the ring is designed to be unscrewed with a 'C-spanner'

... but if a straight rod would pass through both holes, that may be even better.

Thank you Michael. Then those holes (5 mm diameter) should be to anchor a C-spanner like this ?

Yes, I believe so [but it may be wise to put some card between the ring and the spanner, to prevent bruising]

Thanks to the comments of MichaelG, I could finally remove the screwed adapter ring by introducing an iron rod in one of the holes and carefully pounding it with a hammer.

Thank you very much!

Yikes! That looks more like a plaqueapo. You need to clean your lens!
