S-Kpl eyepieces

#1 Post by Wes » Wed Sep 18, 2019 8:46 pm

I read in one of the Zeiss booklets (plus a number of people here and elsewhere mentioned it) that S-Kpl eyepieces are very suitable for photomicrography but I never figured out whats so special about them. Anyone care to elaborate? If someone has compared side by side S-Kpl and regular Kpl eyepieces for taking images that would be a great way to figure out if its really worth investing in one.

According to the Zeiss Universal parts list, there are three types of KPL eyepieces: ordinary KPL, KPL wide, and KPL super-wide (the latter should be the KPL-S), with FOV nos of 16, 18 and 20, respectively, and viewing angles of 36, 41 and 45 degrees, respectively.

Hi Wes,
there was a post in the german forum that compared these eyepieces for use in camera adaptation. The S-KLP was just slightly better.

So its just a wide angle eyepiece and this is what makes it suitable for photomicrography.

I had a look into the old brochures that can be found online: These eyepieces were recommended for the MC 63 or a 35mm SLR with 50mm lens for the Standard:
S-KPL 10x/20 Br Specifically sold for use in the MC63 for best image quality.
KPL-W 10x/20 Br
KPL-W 12,5x/18 Br
KPL-W 16x/16 Br

The brochure I found these in didn't have tables with the angles of view.
