Leitz and Nikon fluoroscopic scopes

#1 Post by Dale » Sat May 02, 2015 6:49 pm

IF, I can get myself a real steal on a Labophot-2, or a Dialux20, would I be butchering them to strip them
down for just brightfield illum? Is there any use for the fluorescent lighting if one does not want to hassle
with stains and filters? I would like to sell the fluoroscopic hardware to recoup my costs, but not if I'm
destroying a useful technique or accessory. These things look so impressive.

Dale, you can analyze this thing to death. If you want a compound scope read the tutorials on this sites home page, and buy one. I said initially a good Chinese scope will give you a lot of pleasure for a fraction of the cost of "The Big Three (or four)".

Good luck!

No, butchering consists in dismantling the scope so that it no longer exists as one.
Selling off the fluorescent lighting components is not destructive as long as you use the microscope.

You should however spare a thought for the Bausch and Lomb DynaZoom - am sure Charles will be able to tell you if they are ok.

I do think you have waited long enough for the other "AO 10", time to look around whether the auction comes off or not.

Agree with JimT that there is a lot to be said for keeping things simple! Especially with your first microscope.

Thank you RR, I stand corrected. The good news is that next week I should have the AO-10 and a stereozoom 4.
I am trying to get the optics specs from the auction site, which would make or break any deal there.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

That is good news!
Looking forward to seeing them in the My microscope section.

The war with the post office is far from settled, but seller and I are relentless. Now I must devise
a mobile lab in the guest room that can be easily moved out. My wife's son, a lawyer, visits 6+
times a year, and brings his work with him. If only for mobility's sake I should limit the number of
scopes I have! Anxious to edit my dorky signature.
