Optovar Magnification Changer

#1 Post by microb » Tue Jul 14, 2020 7:45 am

Does anyone have pointers to the lens assembly design of a Optovar Magnification Changer? What lenses are used to get 1.25x 2.x and so on?

I'm assuming they two doublets: planer convex and a planar convex making a Galilean telescope: http://electron9.phys.utk.edu/optics421 ... scopes.htm

So if I take a 56.79 BFL and a -51.58, put them together in a Galilean telescope, it becomes clear that to get much magnification the focal lengths need a bigger difference.

So FL 56.79 paired with FL -18.08:
