Much improved! I would say that any scope off of eBay is going to require *at least* as much cleaning as what you have done and always has the potential to have something vital completely booshed on arrival.
Thank you Bram :)

It is configured for epi-fluorescence. Will be useful for general epi-illumination, if the top (external) illuminator is replaced. That illuminator (on the top back of the scope) is a high-pressure mercury/xenon lamp. Requires a dedicated specific power supply and is useful only for fluorescence.
Since it is offered for parts only, I would make a significantly lower price offer, especially in view of the shipping cost. The most important part of it for your purpose is the trinocular head of course.

Thanks, I already lowered the price but not significantly hehe (300). I hope that I can assume that the head will be compatible (it should be since it is the same model). The fluorescent part is a bonus. I don't think it is of any help in mycology, and I can always sell it apart if it is in good order. I let you know ho it goes. I asked the seller what is faulty, hoping it is not the head (it would be very strange if that is the case, but better ask!) Now that the optics of my AxioLab scope are close to very good, I can move on the updates. From the other posts, I am hunting for a good objective. Thanks for yr time.

Update; when I asked the seller (from Israel) what is the fault and if the head is fine, he replied "I just dont know"... raising the risk level quite high. The pics show a fine well treated scope... hmmm!

I believe he is a surplus dealer. Without specific expertise in microscopy or the facility to inspect and judge the status of the items.
That is a risk, yes. But so it is when you buy "for parts".

Thank you for your help guys
Here is a quick contribution by smartphone / Canon Gx5 digital camera over the eyepiece to show my appreciation for your help.

The canon has dust in its barrel that is not seen in everyday photos but terrifying when taking photos from the lens. When I had the other microscope that my friend kindly lent me, I used the trinocular and DSLR. Hence my hunch for a trinocular for the AxioLab RE.

Thanks a lot!

Dam it !!! The seller cancelled the order after paying and everything was ready to be sent. He refunded me back but I am still angry and more upset!!! He said the microscope was broken before packing and that he would love to get a positive shot in spite of everything. I am not buying it. I told him I only need the head and to send me some pics of what is broken.

Not my luck!

Better a canceled transaction and refund than a very risky purchase, with the headache of returning broken parts. Especially since the seller does not accept returns. the scope might have been lying in this condition for a long period in a storage yard.

Here is a maybe much better option ?

So this part ZEISS Trinocular Microscope Head For Axio Series 45 29 14 has a code different from mine series 45 09 05. Does it still match? By sight, it looks similar to mine. I am also concerned that the phototube is so wide! Is it a standard size like that or something alien nowadays?

To add to the confusion here is another one. I am not an expert on the Axio series though - just finding them like wild mushrooms in the wood :D hope that one of them fits...

Moreover, from a site called www.its.Caltech.edu one can download a Zeiss brochure named "Microscopy from the very beginning" which illustrates Axio microscopes (I think, Axiolab). The schemes and photos show, I believe, that more than one form of photo tube on the trinocular head is possible.

Not that it directly answers your question though... but hopefully helps some...

Sorry to disturb you again, just an update.
I dismantled the binocular head of my the Axioscope RE to check the dimensions of the mechanical parts and happy to read the manufct. code being 452908. Hence it is quite risk-free that the three trinocular currently on sale - the 452914, 452902 and the 452910 would fit my scope.

452910

452914

452902

What would you pick ?

P.s. today I discovered that on this forum board, one can select multiple image files to attach :-)

Also, place the cursor as you edit, where you'd like one of those attached-images to appear, and from the list of said attachments select 'place inline' and hey-presto!

The dovetail connectors of the three heads appear to be the same, or very similar to each other, and differ from the connector on the head of your present binocular. So, a dilema. Hopefully an expert on Zeiss Axio will join and judge.
Or I would continue to investigate in Zeiss parts lists and brochures.

Otherwise, I would choose the 452910, for two reasons:
1. There is a Make Offer option.
2. The seller accepts returns.

I ordered that one also because
3. from UK so faster delivery
4. has two sliders not 1

Do you think the connectors are different :-( I judged them they are similar. Now we see, in that case I return it. The code is very similar so that was another 'psychological' thing that convinced me they must all match! 452910 is the tri, 452908 is my bi ...

Just to clarify : I was referring to a microbe hunter forum member who has and/or uses Zeiss Axio, not a Zeiss salesperson or representative.
Hopefully, with a little bit of luck, the trino head will fit !

Hi folks, me again writing.

Time ago I asked assistance from Zeiss about the trinocular for my AxioLab Re and today they have unfortunately confirmed that trinoculars pn 452910 and 452914 would not fit my scope as they are for Axioscops not Axiolabs. The trinocular that would fit is 452909 but I can't yet see listed on ebay.

However I want to ask if I screw of the base of the the 452910 and instead I put that of my binocular (452908) would it be a work-around solution? The screws seem be the same position and alignment. See image

Have someone ever experimented this idea!

Otherwise Im have to take my pics through the eyepiece from a digital camera :-(
