Star Colony - Stentor?

#1 Post by EricB » Wed Apr 24, 2024 5:36 pm

From Carnegie Era Scotia Iron Mine Trench-Pond up on the Gatesburg Reef in Central Pa.

Stentor Colony(?)

My Set-Up is is still relatively primitive; good Focus is hard to achieve using just a Cell Phone. Working towards getting decent Laptop so can go from Phone Camera to Full-Screen display - should be able to do a lot better Job of focusing then.

Note Contraction when Wife slams Kitchen Drawer -

Great find!

These are not Stentors. This is a colony of the peritrich ciliate Ophrydium (a variety without zoochlorellae, such as O. crassicaule or O. sessile).
