Nice Foraminifer from Egypt

#1 Post by cuxlander » Tue Apr 23, 2019 9:48 am

Hello,

This pretty foraminifera came from Red Sea beach sand.

25x Neofluar transmitted and reflected light. About 300 µm wide. Stacked with Picolay from 38 frames:

You will probably also like this version of the photo, greyscale, negative:

Most forams are not very transparent, and I should need a better vertical lamp for these creatures than my Ikea Jansjö.

Cheers,
Hans

Yes ... I like both images

Just out of interest: You mention the 25x objective, but what is the rest of the imaging train ?

Hello Michael,

My imaging train is not sopisticated.
Illumination is by a DYO-LED, my top lamp is an Ikea Sansjö .
As you will probably know, the Zeiss KF2 has a fixed illumination and a basic diaphragm condensor, no koehlering.
As cameraobjective the Amscope 14 mP CMOS Camera (MU1400) has got a Plössl Astro Ocular fitted to the C-Mount thread, which is connected to a Zeiss K8x ocular by a tailormade lathed fitting, see

Does this answer your question?
Glad you like the images,
Hans

Wonderful images... Great detail an sharpness..

"As you will probably know, the Zeiss KF2 has a fixed illumination and a basic diaphragm condensor, no koehlering."

Contrary to popular belief Kohler lighting is not an absolute necessity for good microscopy.. You are proof...
