Looking at a thin slice of a frond that was left
drying on the floor of the flower pot,
I compared top and side-stage illumination
with substage illumination. The visit to the
surface of a dying plant gave me a new perspective.

I enjoyed that, Don. I didn't realise you used top & side illumination for most of your videos, I've noticed that many of them have flickering lines that drift down the screen but these do not appear late on in this video when you used substage illumination. Is there some sort of conflict between the frame rate you're filming at and the lighting you use? I had a friend some time ago who called the effect 'strobing'.

I have and LED connected to a USB power supply. It's ac current and it causes that flicker. I don't know what to do about it.

I won't pretend to know anything about video but a quick search for 'Strobing on video' throws up a lot of fixes. Some depend on buying plug-ins and others work with the editing software you use and appear to work by creating multiple copies of the video, then overlaying them one frame out of phase.
It looks complicated to me but I've only ever played about with editing video using iMovie on my Macbook and Windows Movie Maker many years ago.

I bought a really nice ac powered light. I fell in love with it, but it betrayed me. Sad.

I'm trying to find a use foor it. I also bought a rechargeable flashlight that generates violet and ultraviolet light.
