Frontonia?

#1 Post by janvangastel » Fri Sep 18, 2020 1:57 pm

This ciliate is about 75 microns long, has clearly visible extrusomes and a basket at the frontal half of the cell. The CV is situated at the center of the cell, a little to one side. I rthink the algae inside are blue algae. I thought it could be Frontonia acuminata, which I observed before, but that species has a black spot, while this one has a brownish spot. I also looked at Nassula ornata, but that species is much larger and has a more roundish shape. So I don't know.

A very clear and beautiful video! :) You were on the right track with Nassula. This is a species of Furgasonia.

Thank's Bruce. I now see that I already had a Furgasonia some time ago.
