Rotifer (Dissotrocha macrostyla)

A new rotifer found in the microbe aquarium. Powerful feeding currents. In the latter half of the video you can see the dorsal antenna being used to sense nearby dangers.

Nice, clear video of the feeding action. Looks like cilia leading down to the esophagus are visible a few times? Reminiscent of a little wood chipper. The ones in my sample seem to only feed while crawling/swimming and thrusting their heads around making it difficult to get good video of the trochi working.

This was filmed at 30fps with a Canon 550d through an Olympus NFK 3.3x photoeyepiece Louise. I also use a Canon M50 occasionally as it will record 1080p at 60fps.

Ah, cool - I have a 550d also but haven't tried to record any video - yours gives me inspiration!
