Very nice image and excellent detail! I've never seen one this color.

Have seen the lighter band before, but had not noticed the purple tinge previously, I suppose it could be a colour distortion.
There is a definite sweet-spot where the light intensity, the diaphragm opening and the Oblique setting combine perfectly.
Found it quickly this time. I tend to rush the photographs and therefore miss it - I should attempt to be more methodical.

Yes, you got all your adjustment very well chosen. The very slight purple (and green) fringe around the edges is due to chromatic aberration, I believe. I think this shows up mainly from areas above or below the exact plane of focus, since you are dealing with an object with depth. But by saying that I've never seen one this color, I was not referring to that. I meant I've never seen cyanobacteria that are not green or blue-green.

Purple fringe is the result of C. A. and can be eliminated in PS by reducing saturation of the magenta slider with a Hue Saturation layer. Use the eyedropper to select the fringe color. You can eliminate other C. A. effects with this technique as well.

Oh BTW, nice images.
