Four gemstone rocks and their thin sections

#1 Post by The QCC » Fri Aug 14, 2015 1:25 am

In all cases the polished rock looks beautiful. In many cases the raw rock looks better than a thin section. In some cases the thin section even outshines the polished gem.

Presented here are four rocks and their thin sections. I was told in no uncertain words I could not buy the gems.
The four rocks are Jade, Peridotite, Opal and Lapis Lazuli.

Interesting series. I liked the first image of the jade and the last image of the Peridotite crossed polarized.

I agree the rocks are beautiful, and your macros of them are superb. I very much liked the peridotite thin section under cross-polarized light (very beautiful colors-- I like saturated colors!)
