The vampyrellid amoebae are an usual group of small amoebae. I have two videos, one of Hyalodiscus and one of Vampyrella. They are both distinctive for their orange color. Hyalodiscus moves with a broad pseudopod in a rolling motion, while Vampyrella has many filopodia. The Hyalodiscus was desperately trying to escape from the bright light of the field. Vampyrella is interesting because it feeds on algae by penetrating the cell wall and feeding on the contents of the cell. Different species appear to have preferences for certain algae. In both videos, the objective is a 40x Neofluar, DIC optics. In the Hyalodiscus video, the change in magnification toward the end of the video is due to a change in the optovar setting from 2x to 1.25x.

Thanks, Wes, for your comment and the heads up about comments on the videos being turned off. I have corrected this for all of my videos.
