Protozoan but I'm not sure

#1 Post by fdupre » Mon Jan 31, 2022 4:11 pm

Hello everyone,

I share with you a video made with a science infinity microscope and filmed with a Canon 1200D/Rebel T5 of what I think is a protozoan but I'm not sure:

Very nice images, Frank. I'm sure someone here can tell you what it is.
Perry
Insatiably curious.

Definitely a protozoan. Interesting view. Try a higher magnification.

Hello DonSchaeffer,
Thanks for your feedback.
Yes, I also think so for the protozoan and apparently, I was told that it would be more precisely a paramecium ? What do you think ?
Good idea for the higher magnification, I will try but it moves a lot :)
Sincerely,
Franck

My skill with ciliates is nearly non-existent, but I don't think that is a paramecium. I don't see the typical "oral groove" of a paramecium, I don't believe a paramecium has the noticeable cilia at the "front", and the shape doesn't seem right. Again, these are comments from a person who is admittedly, not competent to identify it.

Hello dtsh,
You are absolutely right because indeed, it would apparently be a stylonychia from the spirotriche family.
friendly,
Franck

It is a indeed spirotrich, in the subclass Hypotrichia, but it is not in genus Stylonychia. For identification below Hypotrichia, we would need to see the distribution of cirri (compound cilia) on the body.

Hello Bruce Taylor,
Thanks for your return.

Pour l'identification sous Hypotrichia, nous aurions besoin de voir la distribution des cirres (cils composés) sur le corps
I would have to take more detailed photos for that but I'm not sure to find the same animal.

Friendly,
Frank
