Yes. I mix a little chemical in water or alcohol, and put them in eye droppers. Place on slide and heat over a candle for a few minutes. This is urea tartaric acid. If your interested, google Loes Moderman and micro crystalline photography. She has some nice articles.

This is urea and tartaric acid. Polarized light and a mica retarder.
