When the insect is very small, I put a small drop of cyanoacrylate glue (super fast-setting glue) on a microscope slide and I glue the insect in a vertical position. For the Green Lacewing, I cut the insect in half before gluing it :

Otherwise, if the insect is at least 4 or 5 mm in size, I make myself a small circle of cardboard that I close with a piece of sticky tape and I put the insect in it vertically :

-My attempts with cyanoacylate have often ended up with the stuff in the wrong place :-(
