This species (Caledonia stellaris) (sometimes called window lichen) belongs to the group of reindeer lichens and is often found on rock slabs or sand dunes in sparse pine forests throughout the country. It is distinguished from its close relatives, yellow-white reindeer lichen (Cladonia arbuscula) and gray reindeer lichen (Cladonia rangiferina), in that the window lichen forms clearer cushions on the ground where it grows, which makes it especially suitable for use in Advent candle holders.
Fixation in glutaraldehyde, dehydrated in methanol, critical point dried and sputtered in gold, scanned and coloured in photoshop.
