"Spathidium"

#1 Post by jackieone » Mon Feb 12, 2024 3:00 am

My best guess is that this ciliate is a Spathidium. Surely a beautiful and graceful creature, I nicknamed him the "Slipper creature" until I researched and found what I think is his real name.

Unfortunately I did not get a lot of footage, and it wasn't the best, but this is my tribute to another resident of my garden plate-pools.

Enjoy!

You know what surprises me the most about these ciliates?
Well, not just these specifically, but all the other strange creatures I come across - I ask myself: where do they come from? How do they show up in my plate of debris, or under a flower pot? Amazing.

Considering the digital microscope I'm using, it's a gift to see these beauties.
