tulip stomata
tulip stomata
My wife was cutting down some tulip stems and donated a leaf and stem to check out under the microscope. The stem sections I tried cutting were too thick but I was able to peel away a thing layer of cells from the leaf. The stomata showed up well and inserting a plastic piece to function as a wave plate added some much needed colour.

Thanks Don and Michael, must say I was surprised to see how well it turned out.

Re: tulip stomata
Before the tulips were tossed, I grabbed a piece of stem to work on my freehand sectioning techniques. Although I'm getting better, no pieces I cut produced a decent image, all were too thick. I was however able to peel off a single layer of the outer skin of the stem. I also managed to find another colour in my plastic plate. Notice how the shape of the individual stoma are elliptical while those of the leaf are more rounded.
