This particular biome seems to be undergoing a lot of growth and change. There is an undercurrent of very small and fast moving organisms superimposed on the larger protist population. The range of species is large. Many of them are not familiar. At the same time the biofilm is thinning out--organic matter is being depleted and the floating biome is thinning.
