A Classic Microscopy Video

#1 Post by KurtM » Sun Jan 24, 2016 6:14 pm

While tidying up my favorites folders I came across this classic video that I had all but forgotten, but which had much impact on me some years ago. I just watched it again and it's still just as wonderful as ever:

Be interested to know what y'all think.

Interesting. Film date is 1981 - which is about (plus or minus) the age of my microscope, yet the images my microscope produces are superior. I think this shows how much image capture has improved during this time with the advent of digital video and photography.

By the way I think you should post this in: Resources (online, books etc.)
It will simply get lost in Pictures and Video
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)

Kurt, that's a very useful video indeed - I've downloaded it and watched it - I learned an awful lot from that little film! :D The lighting techniques are so simply demonstrated I understood them better than I have up to now. Thanks for this super link - very handy indeed. The polarizing-sunglasses demo has really brought it home to me just how easy a simple version may be to make! The Rheinberg and dark-field where also made to look easy enough to have a try at.

These techniques will be great for crystals such as raphides and druses that I see a lot within tissue but haven't been able to image with simple staining. Very good also for similarly transparent trichomes!

Great link, thanks. :)

Excellent introduction to microscopy. Covers the subject very succinctly, very clearly, and very accurately.

Easily done. But what would be a better, more descriptive title for the thread?

Glad y'all like it as much as I did, the lighting demonstrations really helped me understand too. It's a lot of fun to nip a small square of tissue and use forceps to repeat the demonstrations on my own scopes!

Finally got a chance to watch this last night. Really nice film.

I could almost hear the sound of the film projector and the teacher cussing under her breath, trying to thread the film.

Thanks for the link
