Thanks 75.

Hey All.

After reviewing the posted image on a different system, it seems that I left it a bit dark. Below is an image with what I think is a better Levels setting- no other change.

Let me know which you prefer.

Thanks

Rod

To my old eyes the second one seems to be better. Nice capture.

I think you got the lighting perfect on your second one... Very sharp and clear images..

An excellent image of Colsterium. Clear, sharp, and very good color. To my eyes both versions are equally good. If I may make a suggestion: next time you encounter one, perhaps you may try taking a video (perhaps under polarized light) of the Brownian motion of the crystals in the terminal vacuoles under high magnification. When I had the chance to do that (when I saw one under the microscope) I missed it.

Very nice image, I just love desmids as being one of the prettiest things we can examine with our microscopes. Gekko's request for a "dancing crytals" video is echoed by this diehard fan of Rod Productions (maybe put it to disco music - no, wait, never mind, I didn't say that).

Well Gosh Guys,

I have never been commissioned to produce a MicroVid before. So I got right on it.

Here it is:

This is using the 100x Oil. I tried the polarizer, as you will see, it just blacked out, no joy.

Hi Rod, not my area but what superb videos they are - very interesting and strangely serene I find. :)
Hmm.. is it certain that the 'crystals' are indeed crystals and/or that what is seen is actually Brownian motion I wonder?

Apologies if that's a stupid question, but it just intrigued as well as charmed me to see these excellent videos. :)

Thanks John.

Yes they are crystals and are exhibiting Brownian motion. Here is a reference: http://eol.org/pages/11646/overview

Cool huh?

Excellent video that shows the Brownian motion very well indeed: I enjoyed it! But more amazing to me is the speed with which you provided the video after "being commissioned" :) . Thank you, Rod!

I have a sample that is full of them, so any slide prepared is guaranteed to have a few, so it was a simple matter to fill the order.

Glad you enjoyed it

Rod, nice sharp image of Closterium and I liked the videos as well. Nice job! I haven't done any microscopy in about a year and a half, but I searched through some of my old videos and found one I liked of Closterium. I never tired of watching those little crystals in the tips.

Rod, ditto to all the above except for telling the boss to give you a raise.

Second still is excellent and both videos are great. I am surprised polarized light didn't yield better results.

Thanks Bill.

Excellent video. Loved the before and after bacteria demonstration. Reminds us that sometimes behavior is driven by factors that are invisible, (unless you happen to have Phase Contrast eyes).

Thanks for sharing the link

Thanks Jim.

A doubling of my current microscopy related salary would have zero impact (literally zero 2 * 0) so I am thinking of holding out for a tripling.

Thanks, Rod. It's been so long since I have posted on this forum, I couldn't remember how to put the video in the post, so I just included the link. Might have to dust the old microscope off and try to do another video or two.

Billporter1456, I hope you will dust off the "Old microscope", participate more, and post some more images.

Welcome to a returning microscopist.

JimT, Kurt, and gekko, even though I seem to have lost interest in using my microscopes, I still take a look at your forum from time to time to see what you guys are up to. I am happy to see that this forum seems to be doing just fine!
