Have anyone seen this before?
I got a very nice DIC effect from my stock standard brightfield setup.
The DIC effect was created when i took the picture using my cellphone through they eyepiece, the alignment was just a little offset as can be seen by the bottom shadow.
But the effect is amazing.
No stacking, just one image.
The effect was only visible from the cellphone camera - not directly on the microscope.

Re: Accidental DIC
DIC similar effects can be done by "oblique illumination", in which a filter is placed into the filter holder to illuminate the specimen from the side. The misaligned camera might have done a similar thing, picking up more light from one side. The shadows on the specimen seem to indicate this, and they produce a 3D like effect.

Re: Accidental DIC
Hi Johann,
As Oliver indicated, you are seeing the effects of oblique Illumination, a great technique.
Another form of oblique that produces some interesting effects was developed by a man named van Egmond. using a simple mask, he could create a very DIC - like result.
If you search the forums for "van Egmond" you should be able to turn up a number of posts that I and others made using the technique.
Here is a link to one that I did to demonstrate the potential of the technique:

Give it a try, out is great fun.
