Very pretty image of a ... Desmid. Closterium, I think? Desmids are close to diatoms, among the most beautiful of all pond life, and very difficult to get good images of. You have manged it nicely. How'd you get the blue background?

Does look like closterium - unusual looking DIC image as well.
Had a quick look in the My microscopes section - was that done with your Olympus BX51? That is an amazing microscope!
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)

Thanks for clarifying! I am still learning how to identify what I see... I will try to update the title.
Yes, I used the BX51. I took maybe 5 different sets and most where blurry and had too much chromatic aberation. This set was OK and reasonable crisp. DIC gives different colored backgrounds depending on how you turn the filters and the DIC-prism. From purple to grey and sometimes even pink and blue. This time I got the best contrast using the blue setting.

I also took another set in brightfield which turned out equally nice, so I think DIC was really not needed for this particular subject.
