Since justcurious was asking about xylems I decided to photo some today and post one. Philoderndron stem (house plant), 40x obj, 3mp camera. Stack of five images.
I enjoy these because they look like springs.

Philoderndron stem (house plant)
Did you pop it in a liquidizer (smoothie style) or just bash it with something?

Longitudinal section with a razor. We should try a blender to see what comes out :D

Did you cut it freehand or did you use some kind of microtome? Also, what program do you use to stack your images? Thanks!

Freehand cut for longitudinal sections, microtome for cross sections. I use Combine ZP (freeware) for initial stacking and then may tweak the image in PS using the individual images and masks.

Not so sure about that. Actually the other day I took a handful of salad greens and a little water and ran it thru a blender (ala Justcurious) just to see what it might look like. A potpourri of xylem, stomata, and cells. Might be an easy way to get sections
