#5 is great. Really shows the texture of the surface

Thank you: good and very interesting images. I am surprised at the detail in the first image and, in my ignorance, wonder if it is partly optical artifact? I think diatoms can be tricky and can give surprising results caused by diffraction of light by the regular pattern. Any idea of the scale?

I've been spending all my time on technique, and I haven't figured out how to do that.

Do you own a stage micrometer? If not you would need to get one (they are inexpensive), for example:
https://www.amazon.com/OMAX-0-01mm-Micr ... micrometer
http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-01mm-Microsco ... SwHnFVuyUP
http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-01mm-Microsco ... xyVLNSt9Vp
What I do is take an image of the scale using each of my objectives, then use it to obtaine the size of any mage taken with the corresponding objective.
Here is a thread that discusses different ways to do this:

The following thread explains the way I happen to do it in great detail, in case it is of interest:

Thanks, Gekko, I actually got a slide with the camera. I also have a reticle for the Zeiss that should work, but I don't think it's necessary with the camera.
Guess I need to get off my butt and set a good example for other newbees.

Very nice work. With these subjects, at these magnifications, a very small stack (as small as 2 or 3 images) can make a big difference as well.

(BTW... I notice the same "spot" pattern on these images... might be time to carefully clean the sensor).
