#5 is great. Really shows the texture of the surface

Re: Some more oil play
Thank you: good and very interesting images. I am surprised at the detail in the first image and, in my ignorance, wonder if it is partly optical artifact? I think diatoms can be tricky and can give surprising results caused by diffraction of light by the regular pattern. Any idea of the scale?
Re: Some more oil play
I've been spending all my time on technique, and I haven't figured out how to do that.gekko wrote: Any idea of the scale?

Re: Some more oil play
Do you own a stage micrometer? If not you would need to get one (they are inexpensive), for example:Radazz wrote:I've been spending all my time on technique, and I haven't figured out how to do that.gekko wrote: Any idea of the scale?

What I do is take an image of the scale using each of my objectives, then use it to obtaine the size of any mage taken with the corresponding objective.
Here is a thread that discusses different ways to do this:

The following thread explains the way I happen to do it in great detail, in case it is of interest:

Re: Some more oil play
Thanks, Gekko, I actually got a slide with the camera. I also have a reticle for the Zeiss that should work, but I don't think it's necessary with the camera.
Guess I need to get off my butt and set a good example for other newbees.

Very nice work. With these subjects, at these magnifications, a very small stack (as small as 2 or 3 images) can make a big difference as well.
(BTW... I notice the same "spot" pattern on these images... might be time to carefully clean the sensor).
