Rotifer 'n Company

#1 Post by Radazz » Wed Aug 17, 2016 1:40 am

As promised, here is a video with music.
Also a bit longer, Gekko :)

Saw this rotifer grazing along side a vortacellid.

A good effort, but, and I hope you don't mind my saying this, for what it's worth, phase contrast may not be the most suitable illumination for such a subject.

I'm just fascinated with seeing the invisible and seem to be driven to share.

Still discovering things, and I have no where else to say "Hey! Look what I did!"

Waiting for another nosepiece to put my bright field objectives on.

Hmmm... Have to try these objectives with the abbe condenser.

Phase objectives work very well in brightfield-- I think there is no need for brightfield objectives unless they are better quality.

The camera is not helping, it looks like about a 20x or 25x occular.
With the HI 100x objectives, it really is pretty useless.
I want to play with the Canon 7D, just got an adaptor, but I might need to put it on the Zeiss standard instead. That one has a streight camera tube.

I've just put way too much money into restoring this Wild Heerbrugg, and have to sell some of my other microscopes.

Nice video!

I agree with Gekko. My UplanFl 4x-100x are all Phase Objectives. They produce excellent images in all illumination techniques, BF, DF, DIC, and of course, phase. I have heard that the small translucent phase ring may create a slight blur in some areas, but I have never noticed any such thing.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a try.
The two sets of objectives on separate nose pieces was one of those Schrodinger things that I simaltaniously needed and didn't need. You know what I mean...

My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that the phase plate results in a very slight decrease in image contrast but no effect on resolution. Perhaps someone knowledgeable will correct me.
