Stagnant water

We have only had a couple of recent rains and none of great consequence. Prior to that we were about 6 weeks without. These images are from a pretty stagnant stream that is flowing but has a good quantity of duckweed and alga coating it.

Apochronaut, I find the second image truly impressive! I have never seen the "Spira" individual chloroplasts.

Well done.

Thanks, Jim. I find myself always searching chloroplasts out. It's due to reverence I suppose. They are the most perfect and efficient little factories on earth, to which we owe our existence. When I was a child, I used to stare at algae in ditches in the spring, mesmerized by it. It was the first sign of life after winter, aside from the birds.
